The Way of Love in Lent
Ash Wednesday falls on March 6th this year, and at St. Peter’s Church, we begin the season of Lent with the Imposition of Ashes and Holy Eucharist at 7:30 p.m. Our neighbors from the Presbyterian and Methodist Churches of Livingston will join us in a right beginning to this season of reflection and returning to God. Below are opportunities for spiritual growth for all ages during this holy season.
The Way of Love in Lent
The journey through Lent into Easter is a journey with Jesus. We are baptized into his life, self-giving, and death; then, we rise in hope to life transformed. St. Peter’s will join communities around the world to walk with Jesus in his Way of Love and into the experience of transformed life. In worship and conversation at coffee hour, we’ll reflect on the loving actions of God in scripture and into the fullness of redemption. Resources for the journey, including daily reflections, are available here. Join us!
The Jesus Tree for Children
Our young people will learn The Way of Love as they create a Jesus Tree. On Sundays, March 10, 17, and 31, children are invited to the Rectory to join in making symbols of Jesus’ life, death, and resurrection. On Sunday, February 24th, we’ll learn about Lent in our Family Worship. Sunday, April 7th our young people will bake communion bread for use on April 14th, Palm Sunday. The Jesus Tree will be presented by our young people on Easter morning, April 21st at the 10 a.m. worship. All are invited!
Lenten Journey with Our Neighbors
St. Peter’s will join with our neighbor parishes of Holy Spirit, Verona and St. Peter’s, Essex Fells to share prayer and fellowship on the Wednesday evenings of Lent. We will meet at 7:00 pm for a quiet Eucharist followed with a short meal of bread and soup. For more information and a schedule, please visit our website. St. Peter’s will host this gathering on April 3.
Lent Madness
Lent is not all serious! Lent Madness is a fun, engaging way to learn about the men and women who are the Saints of the Church. Read the bios of the saints, then vote for your favorite in a tournament-like bracket. Who will win the Golden Halo? Sign up here.
There are other opportunities in the weeks ahead, including Breaking Bread with the Bishop and Church Leader University, which can be found on the diocesan website. I hope you’ll make it a point to attend Sunday worship during Lent and join in our journey with Jesus in the Way of Love. Worship is the greatest source of nourishment and guidance during these challenging times as God opens our ears, eyes, and hearts to the presence of the Spirit. May that same Spirit nudge us beyond our walls, physical and spiritual, that we may know God’s presence in the people and places around us.
